Women’s Tennis Blanked by Endicott Saturday
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team absorbed its first loss of the season Saturday afternoon, falling to Endicott 9-0 at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions dip to 3-1 on the year and 2-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the setback. The Gulls improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in league play with the win.
The visitors constructed a 3-0 lead after earning wins at all three doubles positions.
Adele Duval (Reading, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) dropped an 8-0 decision to Maxine Bergstein and Gretta Hartman at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) endured an 8-1 loss at the second spot.
Endicott prevailed at the No. 3 slot by default to complete the doubles sweep.
The Gulls secured the victory by notching six singles wins.
At the top spot, Ruttkowski retired in the second set tied 5-5 after a series of hard-fought rallies against Hayley Barnett.
Duval fell in straight sets at the No. 2 position to Hartman 6-1, 6-1 and Steelman suffered a 6-1, 6-3 setback at the third slot against Reilly Fitzgibbons.
Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.), Jimenez, and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) all absorbed straight-set losses at the fourth, fifth, and sixth singles positions, respectively.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns to action September 19 with a home match against Roger Williams.
