Women’s Tennis Match versus Rhode Island College Halted Due to Lightning
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team's non-conference match against Rhode Island College Thursday was cancelled due to lightning.
The Lions fell behind 2-1 after the doubles matches wrapped up.
Adele Duval (Reading, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) earned a 9-7 victory at the No. 1 doubles position over Emily Orticerio and Dayna Reilly.
Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) dropped an 8-1 decision to Victoria Vittori and Grace Zangari at the second spot.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) fell to Olivia Campanella and Isabella Romeo 8-2 at the third slot.
The Anchorwomen held a 3-1 lead when the match was called due to severe weather.
Ruttkowski trailed 3-2 in the second set after dropping the first frame 6-4 to Reilly at the top singles position.
Duval owned a one-set advantage at the No. 2 spot after claiming the opening set 7-6.
At the third slot, Steelman prevailed 6-1 in the first frame and was tied 2-2 with Laura Nastasi in the second.
Cressman dropped the first set 6-2 and trailed 4-2 to Hailey Raskob at the No. 4 position.
At the No. 5 spot, Jimenez suffered a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Laurel Ten Eyck.
Tubbs trailed Serena Bobola 2-0 in the early stages of the first set at the No. 6 slot.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene resumes conference play September 16 at home against Endicott.
