Women’s Tennis Downs Regis for Third-Consecutive Victory
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team rattled off its third win in a row Tuesday afternoon, defeating Regis 6-3 in non-conference action at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions leap to 3-0 on the year with the victory while the Pride falls to 0-1 overall.
The home team established a 2-1 edge at the conclusion of doubles play.
Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) topped Katasha Jarvis and Ariana McCormack 8-2 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) cruised to an 8-1 win at the third spot over Amy DiPace and Sara Kanarkiewicz.
Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) narrowly fell to Carly Donovan and Carly Scanlon 9-8 at the No. 2 slot after dropping the tie-breaker 7-5.
Eastern Nazarene collected four wins in singles action to remain undefeated on the season.
Ruttkowski triumphed in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the top position. The rookie dropped the opening set 6-2 and bounced back to capture the second set 7-5. Ruttkowski clipped Donovan in the third-set super-tiebreaker 11-9 to notch her second victory of the season at the No. 1 position.
Duval also prevailed in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 2 spot. The junior conceded the first frame 7-6 after falling 7-4 in a tiebreaker. She roared back to claim the second set 6-2 before edging Jarvis 10-8 in the third-set super-tiebreaker.
At the third slot, Steelman rallied back from dropping the first set 6-1 to grab the second frame 6-0. In the third-set super-tiebreaker, Steelman bested McCormack 10-4.
Jimenez earned a straight-sets victory at the No. 5 position, downing DiPace 6-4, 6-4.
Cressman and Tubbs both suffered straight-sets setbacks at the fourth and sixth spots, respectively.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene looks to extend its winning-streak to four matches as they host Rhode Island College September 14.
