Women’s Tennis Collects 7-2 Win at Curry in Season-Opener
MILTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team topped Curry 7-2 in the 2017-18 opener as well as the first match under head coach Jack Sahlman Thursday afternoon.
The Lions start the year 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Colonels fall to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in league action.
The visitors established a 2-1 lead with a pair of victories in doubles play.
Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) rolled to an 8-1 win at the No. 1 doubles position over Sidara Cash-Sortwell and April Miller.
Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) cruised past Alexis McLea-Perry and Rosaria Robidoux at the second spot, 8-2.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) dropped an 8-2 decision at the No. 3 slot to Stephanie Leblanc and Kelsie Merrill.
Eastern Nazarene rattled off five singles wins to clinch the season-opening victory.
Ruttkowski breezed by Cash-Sortwell at the top singles position in her first collegiate match 6-0, 6-2.
Duval posted a 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 2 singles spot over McLea-Perry while Steelman bested Leblanc 6-0, 6-1 at the third slot.
Cressman downed Miller at the No. 4 position 6-1, 6-3 and Jimenez blanked Alison Daigle 6-0, 6-0 at the fifth spot.
Tubbs suffered a 6-1, 6-0 setback in the No. 6 singles match against Robidoux.
