Women’s Tennis Caps Off Hilton Head Trip with 6-3 Win Over Heidelberg
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team wrapped up its spring break trip to Hilton Head Island with a 6-3 victory over Heidelberg Friday.
The Lions improve to 5-14 on the year with the win while Heidelberg stumbles to 0-6 overall.
Eastern Nazarene swept the doubles matches to race out to a 3-0 lead.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) doubled up Markilynn Hogle and Nicole Millar 8-4 at the No. 1 position.
Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Jacquelin Arretche (Los Banos, Calif.) coasted to an 8-0 victory at the No. 2 spot over Allie Gales and Gabbi Osterman.
Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) and Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) edged out Jillian Goulet and Summer Hunter-Kysor 8-6 at the third slot.
The two squads halved the singles points as the Lions locked up their first win in the Palmetto State.
Biondi collected a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Hogle at the top singles position while Steelman topped Gales 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot.
Arretche notched her first singles win of the season as she prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at the fourth slot against Goulet.
Duval dropped a 7-5, 6-4 decision in the second singles match to Millar. McCarthy suffered a 6-4, 6-4 setback at the No. 5 position against Hunter-Kysor and Sherrill fell to Mallory Paul 6-0, 6-0 at the sixth spot.
