Women’s Tennis Downed by Drew, 8-1
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team absorbed an 8-1 loss to Drew Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions slide to 4-13 on the year while the Rangers improve to 3-1 overall.
Eastern Nazarene claimed its lone victory of the match at the No. 3 doubles spot as Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) and Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) prevailed 8-6 over Sophia Agathis and Sarah Noel Jeune.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) were edged at the top position by Ty Ty Witten and Ashley Camel 8-6.
Jacquelin Arretche (Los Banos, Calif.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) dropped an 8-1 decision to Jessica Change and Maria Navas Espinal at the No. 2 position.
Drew collected its first win in Hilton Head after notching six singles victories.
At the top singles spot, Biondi conceded the first set before falling in a second-set tie-breaker 7-1 to Camel. Duval suffered a 6-4, 6-3 setback at the No. 2 position to Witten.
Steelman absorbed a 6-1, 6-2 loss at the third slot to Cheng while Arretche lost in straight sets at the No. 4 spot to Navas Espinal 6-0, 6-2.
McCarthy dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at the fifth position to Megan Jarvis and Sherrill fell to Kathryn Swenor 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 6 singles match.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene returns to the courts March 9 to face Lebanon Valley.
