Women’s Tennis Drops 5-4 Decision to DeSales
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team suffered a 5-4 setback to DeSales Monday in the first match of the team's spring break trip.
The Lions fall to 4-12 on the year with the result while the Bulldogs improve to 5-1 overall.
Eastern Nazarene collected a pair of doubles victories to grab an early 2-1 edge.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) notched an 8-2 win at the No. 1 doubles spot over Amber Achenbach and Kelly Nguyen.
Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Jacquelin Arretche (Los Banos, Calif.) prevailed 8-3 over Sarah Lightner and Melissa Tucker at the second doubles slot.
Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) and Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) absorbed an 8-0 loss at the third position against Sarah Chan and Lindsay Driscoll.
DeSales rallied for four wins in singles action to eke out its fifth consecutive victory.
Biondi rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win at the top singles spot over Nguyen while Duval downed Lightner 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 2 slot.
Steelman fell in a third-set super-tiebreaker, 10-7, to Achenbach at the third position after claiming the first set 6-1 and conceding the second set 6-2.
Arretche, McCarthy, and Sherrill all endured straight-set losses at the fourth, fifth, and sixth spots.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will take on Drew March 8.
