Women’s Tennis Downed by Western New England, 8-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team absorbed an 8-1 loss to Western New England Saturday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions dive to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the outcome. The Golden Bears improve to 3-1 on the year and 3-1 in league matches.
Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) collected the home team's lone victory on the day, prevailing at the No. 1 doubles position 8-6 over Joanna Glantz and Christina D'Agostino.
Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) fell to Lauren Sell and Corey St. Louis 8-1 at the second spot.
Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) and Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) suffered an 8-3 setback at the third slot to Jessica Breitweg and Kim Phu.
The visitors swept the six singles matches to secure their third conference win of the year.
Duval dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Sell at the top singles position while Steelman endured a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Glantz in the No. 2 singles match.
Cressman fell to D'Agostino 6-2, 6-2 in the third spot. Jimenez absorbed a 6-3, 6-3 setback to Breitweg at the fourth slot while Sutton dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to St. Louis in the No. 5 singles match.
Lariviere was edged in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 6 position. After conceding the first set 6-2, Lariviere rebounded with a 6-4 win in the second frame. Western New England's Petra Martinelli doubled up Lariviere 10-5 in the super-tiebreaker.
