Women’s Tennis Suffers 9-0 Setback to Springfield
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team fell to Springfield College 9-0 Thursday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
The Lions dip to 2-5 on the year with the result while the Pride improved to 1-3 overall.
Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) dropped an 8-1 decision at the top doubles spot to Rachel London and Melissa Parrish.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) and Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) absorbed an 8-1 loss to Rachel Litchfield and Nicole Piazza at the No. 2 position.
Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) and MacKenzie Miller (James Creek, Pa.) fell to Fiona Stickney and Kelsey Whelpley at the third slot, 8-0.
At the No. 1 singles match, Duval suffered a 6-4, 6-3 setback to London. Steelman endured a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Parrish in the second singles spot while Jimenez fell to Litchfield 6-0, 6-0 at the third slot.
Sutton, Lariviere and Joanna Mohnkern (Petersburg, Pa.) all lost in straight sets at the fourth, fifth and sixth singles positions, respectively.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene resumes league play with a home match September 17 against Western New England.
