Women’s Tennis Drops Conference Opener to Gordon, 9-0
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to Gordon in the first league match of the season Saturday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions fall to 0-2 on the year and 0-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Fighting Scots improve to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in league action with the victory.
Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) fell to Abbie Denney and Justine Hanson 8-5 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) absorbed an 8-1 loss at the second spot to Maddie Berry and Kaelyn Hall.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) and Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) dropped an 8-1 decision to Haley Bean and Abby Caron at the third doubles slot.
Duval endured a 7-5, 6-0 setback at the No. 1 singles match to Denney. Cressman fell to Hall 6-0, 6-1 at the third position.
Steelman, Sutton, Jimenez and Lariviere all suffered 6-0, 6-0 losses in singles action.
"The team played pretty hard today. Gordon is a really strong team and they play very well," said head coach Cris Popa.
