Women’s Tennis Claims First Spring Break Victory, Downs Defiance 9-0
HILTON HEAD, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team wrapped up its trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with a 9-0 win over Defiance Friday.
The Lions improve to 5-10 on the year while the Yellow Jackets drop to 5-15 overall.
Adele Duval (Dallas, Texas) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) cruised to an 8-1 victory at the top doubles spot. Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) glided to an 8-1 win at the second doubles position. Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) and Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) won at the No. 3 slot by default.
Duval blanked Savannah Marquez 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles match. Burrello won in straight sets at the No. 3 spot 6-1, 6-3 and Sutton captured a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the fifth position.
Steelman collected a three-set triumph at the No. 2 slot, prevailing 6-3 in the second set and 10-6 in the super-tiebreaker after dropping the first frame 6-3.
Cressman also picked up a three-set win at the No. 4 spot. She netted a 6-3 decision in the first set and conceded the second 6-2 before bouncing back to win the super-tiebreaker 10-5.
Lariviere won by default at the sixth position to cap off the sweep.
