Women’s Tennis Endures 6-3 Setback to Emory & Henry
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to Emory & Henry in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina Wednesday.
The Lions slide to 4-11 on the year while the Wasps improve to 3-2 overall.
Eastern Nazarene trailed 2-1 after the doubles action concluded.
Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) and Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) picked up the Lions' lone doubles win with a 8-4 decision over Katie Meade and Emma Baltuskonis at the No. 3 spot.
Adele Duval (Dallas, Texas) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) fell to Sveva Mazzari and Savanna Summers at the top position 8-1. Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) lost a closely-contested match against Lauren Riner and Kaitlyn Sheaves at the No. 2 slot, 9-8.
Emory & Henry collected a four singles wins to lock up its third win of the season.
Steelman registered a 6-4, 7-5 victory at the second singles spot over Riner.
Lariviere coasted past Baltuskonis at the No. 6 singles slot 6-0, 6-0 for her first singles win of the year.
Duval, Burrello, Cressman and Sutton all absorbed straight-set losses in singles play.
Eastern Nazarene looks to snap its four-match skid as it returns to the courts Friday, March 11 to battle Defiance.
