Women’s Tennis Falls to Penn State-Behrend in Hilton Head, 7-2
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team absorbed a 7-2 loss to Penn State-Behrend in its first match in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Eastern Nazarene slips to 4-9 on the year while Penn State-Behrend jumps to 12-5 overall.
Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Adele Duval (Dallas, Texas) combined at the No. 1 doubles position to claim an 8-6 win over Morgan Kramer and Chelsea Czerwinski.
Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Jordan Cressman (Snow Hill, Md.) dropped a narrow 9-8 decision to Colleen Miller and Jacqueline Cannella at the second doubles slot. Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) endured an 8-0 loss to Celeste Bentley and Kelly Miller at the third spot.
Steelman posted Eastern Nazarene's lone victory in singles action on the day, prevailing in straight-sets at the No. 2 position over Kat McDonough 6-0, 6-1.
Duval fell to Czerwinski at the top spot 6-3, 6-2 while Burrello absorbed a 6-3, 6-3 setback at the third slot to Cannella. Cressman, Tubbs and Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) all suffered straight-set losses at the fourth, fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns to action in the Palmetto State Tuesday, March 8 as it squares off against Marietta.
