Women’s Tennis Falls to Roger Williams, 9-0
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Roger Williams Tuesday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions slip to 3-6 on the season and 1-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Hawks improve to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in league matches.
The visitors notched a trio of doubles victories to grab a 3-0 lead.
Adele Duval (Dallas, Texas) and Lindsey Steelman endured an 8-5 loss at the No. 1 doubles position to Lauren Schmidt and Carline McCarthy.
Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) suffered an 8-1 setback to Kathryn Hughes and Gabrielle Riley at the second spot. Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) fell at the No. 3 slot to Julia Akerman and Ali Stankiewicz.
Roger Williams swept the six singles matches to clinch its fourth conference win of the season.
Duval dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision at the No. 1 singles match to Hughes while Steelman absorbed a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Akerman at the second slot.
Burrello, Cressman, Tubbs and Sutton all fell in straight sets.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host league-leader Endicott September 26 in the final home match of the fall.
