Women’s Tennis Powers Past Lesley, 8-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team toppled Lesley 8-1 Monday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Lions improve to 3-3 on the season while the Lynx fall to 0-4 overall.
The home team cruised to three doubles wins, dropping just one game along the way.
Adele Duval (Dallas, Texas) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) downed Caroline Kiddie and Theresa Pereira at the No. 1 doubles position 8-1. Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) breezed past Rose Heller and Frances De Leon in the second doubles match 8-0. Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) coasted to an 8-0 victory at the No. 3 doubles spot against Courtney Goggin and Hannah Levensailor.
Eastern Nazarene captured five singles wins en route to clinching its third victory of the season.
Burrello downed Pereira at the No. 3 singles slot 6-1, 6-1 while Cressman blanked Heller 6-0, 6-0 at the fourth position.
Tubbs prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at the fifth spot and Sutton bested Levensailor 6-0, 6-0 in the sixth singles match.
At the No. 2 singles position, Steelman claimed the first set 6-1 before her opponent retired due to injury.
Duval dropped a narrow decision at the top singles slot to Kiddie. The rookie conceded the first set 6-3 before evening the match with a 7-5 victory in the second frame. Kiddie edged Duval in a third-set super-tiebreaker 10-8.
