Women’s Tennis Swept by Gordon Saturday, 9-0
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Gordon Saturday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions fall to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Fighting Scots improve to 3-4 on the year and 3-1 in league play with the win.
Rookies Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) suffered an 8-1 setback at the No. 1 doubles position to Sophie Linnell and Tawnie Yeaw.
Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) absorbed an 8-1 loss to Lily Drescher and Abby Caron at the second doubles spot.
Bethany Mohnkern (Petersburg, Pa.) and Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) fell to Nathalia Moran and Alexa DiDomizio 8-1 in the third doubles match.
In singles action, Steelman lost in straight sets at the top spot to Yeaw while Burrello also fell in straight sets to Linnell at the No. 2 slot.
Cressman endured a 6-1, 6-1 setback at the third singles position to Drescher and Tubbs dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision at the fourth spot to Liann Van Volkinburg.
Mohnkern fell in straight sets at the No. 5 singles match to Haley Bean while Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) absorbed a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Madeline Berry at the sixth position.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host Wentworth in the final home match of the season September 23.
