Women’s Tennis Suffers 9-0 Setback at Salve Regina
NEWPORT, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team absorbed a 9-0 loss on the road at Salve Regina Friday afternoon.
The Lions move to 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Seahawks jump to 2-1 overall and in league play with the win.
The home team opened the match with three doubles wins.
Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) dropped an 8-3 decision at the No. 1 doubles position to Salve Regina's Emma Gruber and Kasey Walther.
Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) fell to Taylor Amendola and Courtney Bailey 8-1 at the second doubles slot. Bethany Mohnkern (Petersburg, Pa.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) absorbed an 8-0 loss at the No. 3 spot to Elizabeth DiFilippo and Meg Olson.
The Seahawks swept the singles portion of the match to secure their second conference victory of the fall.
Steelman suffered a 6-0, 6-1 loss at the top singles spot to Walther while Burrello fell to Gluber 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles match. Lariviere endured a 6-0, 6-1 setback at the fourth singles slot to Amendola.
Cressman, Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) and Jordan Price (Snow Hill, Md.) all fell in straight sets at the third, fifth and sixth singles positions, respectively.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene visits Nichols September 17.
