Women’s Tennis Downed at Lesley, 7-2
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team was handed a 7-2 loss at Lesley Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
The Lions move to 2-3 on the year with the result while the Lynx improve to 2-1 overall.
The home team picked up a pair of doubles wins to grab a 2-1 lead in the match.
Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) collected Eastern Nazarene's only doubles victory on the night. The duo prevailed at the No. 2 position over Frances De Leon and Victoria Bunker 9-7 to notch their team-leading third doubles win of the season.
Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) absorbed an 8-6 loss at the top doubles spot to Caroline Kiddie and Carlyn Barker. Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) and Bethany Mohnkern (Petersburg, Pa.) fell to Emma True and Christyl Skelton at the third slot 8-5.
Lesley won five of the six singles matches to post its second victory of the year.
Mohnkern tallied the Lions' lone singles win as she topped Bunker at the No. 6 singles spot 6-4, 6-4. The win boosted the senior into the team lead in singles victories with three on the fall.
Steelman was edged at the top singles position 6-4, 7-5 by Kiddie. Cressman fell to Barker 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles match. Tubbs suffered a 7-5, 6-3 setback at the fourth slot to De Leon. Lariviere dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision at the fifth singles spot to True.
Carissa Iverson outlasted Burrello in a super-tiebreaker at the No. 2 singles match. Burrello bounced back after dropping the first set 6-1 to claim the second frame 6-3.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene resumes conference play with a road match at Salve Regina September 12.
