Women’s Tennis Swept by Western New England, 9-0
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's tennis team absorbed its first league loss of the season, falling to Western New England 9-0 Tuesday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions sink to 2-2 on the year and 1-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Golden Bears improve to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play with the win.
The visitors claimed wins in all three doubles matches to go ahead 3-0.
Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) suffered an 8-2 loss at the No. 1 double spot to Joeanna Glantz and Lauren Sell.
Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) fell to Kelly Byrnes and Christina D'Agostino at the second doubles position, 8-1. Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) and Bethany Mohnkern (Petersburg, Pa.) dropped an 8-2 decision at the third slot to Jessica Breitweg and Alice Mathews.
Western New England notched six singles victories to secure its first conference win of the fall.
Steelman fell in straight sets at the No. 1 singles position to Sell 6-1, 6-0. Burrello endured a 6-1, 6-2 setback at the second spot while Cressman dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision at the No. 3 spot to D'Agostino.
At the fourth singles slot, Tubbs was downed 6-0, 6-0 by Byrnes. Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) lost 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 position to Corey St. Louis. Jordan Price (Snow Hill, Md.) absorbed a 6-1, 6-0 setback in the sixth singles match to Michele Magliulo.
