Women’s Tennis Falls to Roger Williams in Season Finale
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Roger Williams Wednesday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts in the final match of the 2013 campaign.
The Lions concluded the fall with a 1-10 overall record with an 0-8 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Hawks remain atop the league standings with a 6-1 record in conference play while improving to 8-5 on the year.
Roger Williams swept the three doubles match to boast a 3-0 lead.
Sarah Layton (Bonney Lake, Wash.) and Kathryn McLaughlin (Huntington Station, N.Y.) suffered an 8-2 setback to Hillary Dutton and Caroline McCarthy at the No. 1 doubles position. Senior Juju Atwater (Weymouth, Mass.) and Kelsey Waddle (Olathe, Kan.) absorbed an 8-1 loss to Alexandra Brown and Lauren Schmidt at the second spot. Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) and Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) fell 8-0 at the No. 3 slot to Emma Limburg and Adriana Maconochie.
The visitors secured six singles victories to claim their second-straight win.
McLaughlin dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision at the top singles spot to Dutton while Burrello endured a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Schmidt at the second position. Layton suffered a 6-0, 6-0 setback at the No. 3 slot to Brown.
In her final collegiate tennis match, Atwater absorbed a 6-3, 6-1 loss at the No. 4 position to Alexandra Reilly.
Waddle and Lariviere each fell in straight sets at the fifth and sixth singles spots, respectively.
