Women’s Tennis Edged by Regis, 5-4
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's tennis dropped a narrow 5-4 decision to Regis Monday afternoon at home.
The Lions fall to 1-7 on the year while the Pride improve 3-2 overall with the win.
Eastern Nazarene picked up a pair of doubles victories to hold a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Sarah Layton (Bonney Lake, Wash.) and Juju Atwater (Weymouth, Mass.) edged Jewel Medeiros and Jessie Lord from Regis at the No. 2 doubles spot, 8-6. Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) and Kelsey Waddle (Olathe, Kan.) topped Erika Palmer and Erica Murphy 8-4 at the third position.
Kathryn McLaughlin (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) suffered an 8-2 loss at the top slot to Abbie Wehr and Emily Rice.
The visitors captured four wins in singles action to secure their second-straight victory.
Atwater picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 4 singles spot while Waddle earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the fifth position for the Lions.
McLaughlin fell to Wehr at the No. 1 position 6-0, 6-0 and Burrello dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Rice at the second slot.
Layton absorbed a 6-0, 6-0 loss at the third spot to Lord while Lariviere was edged by Kat Troisi at the sixth position 6-4, 7-6.
