Women’s Tennis Falls to Wentworth Saturday, 9-0
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss to Wentworth Saturday afternoon. The Lions drop to 1-6 on the season and 0-5 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The victory propels the Leopards to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in league matches.
The visitors claimed all three doubles victories to own a 3-0 lead.
Kathryn McLaughlin (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) absorbed an 8-1 loss at the top doubles slot. Juju Atwater (Weymouth, Mass.) and Kelsey Waddle (Olathe, Kan.) fell 8-4 at the No. 2 spot and Sarah Layton (Bonney Lake, Wash.) and Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) suffered an 8-1 setback at the third position.
Wentworth swept the singles matches to secure its first conference win of the year.
McLaughlin fell 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles position to Caitlin Corcoran. Burrello dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision at the No. 2 spot and Layton was edged 6-2, 7-5 at the third slot.
At the fourth spot, Atwater forced a third-set super-tiebreaker after dropping the first set 6-4 and rebounding to prevail 6-3 in the second. The senior dropped a narrow 10-8 decision in the super-tiebreaker to Virginia Ofer.
Waddle endured a 7-5, 6-1 loss at the fifth singles position and Lariviere fell 6-0, 6-0 at the sixth slot.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene hosts Regis September 23 in a non-conference match.
