Women’s Tennis Doubled Up by UMass-Boston, 6-3
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's tennis team absorbed a 6-3 non-conference loss to UMass-Boston Thursday at home. The Lions dip to 1-5 on the season with the result while the Beacons improve to 2-4.
UMass-Boston picked up a pair of doubles wins to capture a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.
Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) and Sarah Layton (Bonney Lake, Wash.) notched Eastern Nazarene's lone doubles victory on the day, prevailing 8-5 at the No. 3 position.
Kathryn McLaughlin (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) fell 8-1 at the top slot to the Beacons' Samantha Counts and Anitra Kloczewiak. Juju Atwater (Weymouth, Mass.) and Kelsey Waddle (Olathe, Kan.) suffered an 8-2 setback at the second spot to Nuha Muntasser and Solveig Castelli.
The visitors tallied four victories in singles play to secure the win.
Atwater and Waddle earned three-set victories for the Lions.
At the No. 4 singles position, Atwater won the first set 6-4 before dropping the second to Castelli 6-4. The Eastern Nazarene senior capped off the victory with a 6-4 decision in the third set.
Waddle traded 6-2 wins in the first two sets at the No. 5 singles slot to Nurcin Celebi. Waddle prevailed 10-5 in a third-set super-tiebreaker.
McLaughlin fell 6-0, 6-0 at the top spot to Muntasser while Burrello dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision at the second position to Kloczewiak. Layton endured a 6-3, 6-3 loss at the No. 3 slot to Counts and Lariviere fell in straight-sets to Kathleen Conroy at the No. 6 slot, 6-2, 6-4.
