Women’s Tennis Cruises Past Mount Ida in Opener, 9-0

NEWTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's tennis team kicked off the 2013 season with a 9-0 victory over Mount Ida Thursday afternoon. The Lions improve to 1-0 overall while the Mustangs fall to 0-1.
The visitors opened the match with a trio of 8-0 wins in doubles action to grab a 3-0 lead.
Kathryn McLaughlin (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Sarah Layton (Bonney Lake, Wash.) picked up an 8-0 victory at the top doubles slot. Juju Atwater (Weymouth, Mass.) and Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) prevailed over Mount Ida's Elizabeth Wood and Lizzie Trautz at the No. 2 position. Kelsey Waddle (Olathe, Kan.) and Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) won at the No. 3 spot to complete the doubles sweep for the Lions.
Eastern Nazarene rattled off six singles victories to secure its first victory of the fall.
At the No. 1 singles position, McLaughlin posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Jennifer Lord. Layton eased past Patti Ann Doucette 6-0, 6-0 at the second spot. Burrello also recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win at the third singles match.
Atwater tallied a 6-0, 6-0 decision at the No. 4 slot while Waddle also prevailed 6-0, 6-0 at the fifth position. Lariviere capped off the victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the sixth singles spot for the Lions.
