Women’s Tennis Tripped Up at UMass-Boston

BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team absorbed a 9-0 loss on the road at UMass-Boston Thursday afternoon at the BC High Tennis Courts. The Lions slip to 2-5 on the year while the Beacons improve to 2-4 overall.
The home team captured three victories in doubles action to sport a 3-0 lead at the start of singles play.
Kathryn McLaughlin (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Elise Sleeper (Sanford, Maine) suffered an 8-4 loss at the top slot to UMass-Boston's Samantha Counts and Hieu Nguyen. Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Kelsey Waddle (Olathe, Kan.) were edged 8-5 at the No. 2 position by Wendy Steinman and Shihyu Yang. At the No. 3 doubles spot, Monica Gonzalez (Somerville, Mass.) and Emily Holecy (Nashua, N.H.) dropped an 8-3 decision to Solveig Castelli and Stephony Reeves.
The Beacons earned six singles wins en route to sealing their second victory of the fall.
At the No. 1 singles position, Sleeper endured a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Nguyen. McLaughlin fell 6-1, 6-0 at the second slot while Burrello absorbed a 6-0, 6-2 loss at the third match.
Waddle dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision at the No. 4 spot to Imani Williams. Gonzalez suffered a 6-1, 6-3 setback at the fifth singles slot and Tannah Victor (Dorchester, Mass.) fell 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 position.
