Women’s Tennis Open CCC Play with Loss at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 loss at Salve Regina Saturday to kick off the 2012 Commonwealth Coast Conference slate. The Lions fall to 1-1 on the year and 0-1 in league play while the Seahawks improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The hosts held a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles action with wins at the top two positions. Eastern Nazarene's lone doubles point came at the No. 3 slot. Juju Atwater (Weymouth, Mass.) and Kelsey Waddle (Olathe, Kan.) teamed up to claim an 8-4 decision for the visitors.
Elise Sleeper (Sanford, Maine) posted the Lions' only victory in singles play Saturday. Playing at the No. 2 spot, Sleeper dropped the opening set 7-6 before battling back to prevail in the second 7-6. The senior prevailed in a third-set super-tiebreaker to capture her second singles win of the season.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host Wentworth in the 2012 home opener September 11 at 3:30 pm.
