Women’s Soccer Soars Past Fisher, 5-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team snapped a seven-match skid with a 5-1 victory over Fisher Tuesday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions climb to 3-8-0 on the campaign with the win while the Falcons fall to 1-7-0 overall.
The home team opened the scoring in the 26th minute to establish a 1-0 lead. Sam Baston (Carver, Mass.) rifled in a long-range effort to net her second goal of the season while Briana Taylor (Milton, Del.) picked up her first career assist.
Eastern Nazarene doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 39th minute as Kayla Dorn (Hampton, Ill.) bagged her first collegiate tally with a right-footed shot from the top of the box.
The Lions carried the two-goal cushion into the halftime intermission while holding a commanding 19-5 margin in first-half shot attempts.
The hosts tacked on their third score of the night to widen the gap to 3-0. Michala O'Donoghue (San Bruno, Calif.) fired home her first career goal in the 65th minute as Diamond Best (Danvers, Mass.) dished out her team-leading third assist of the fall.
Eastern Nazarene extended its advantage to 4-0 in the 67th minute. Baston notched her second marker of the night and team-best third of the season with a right-footed shot floated over the goalkeeper and into the back of the cage.
Fisher got on the board in the 74th minute to cut the deficit to 4-1. Juliette Dominguez scored her sixth goal of the year with a breakaway-finish setup by Kelly Wallace.
The Lions regained a four-goal lead, 5-1, late in the contest as Rachel Pieger (Oakville, Conn.) netted her second tally of the season with a direct free kick in the 90th minute.
Eastern Nazarene concluded the game with 36 shots, the most attempts in a single match since September 14, 2019. Fisher managed 12 shot attempts on the evening.
Jasmine Arzu (Bronx, N.Y.) and Rachel Smith (Quincy, Mass.) each played 45 minutes between the pipes with Arzu posting four saves in her second start of the year and Smith making four saves in her first appearance.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene resumes conference play October 16 as it hosts Lesley on Homecoming and Senior Day.
