Women’s Soccer Falters at Wentworth
BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team suffered a 5-1 setback at Wentworth Saturday afternoon.
The Lions sink to 2-4-0 overall with the outcome while the Leopards improve to 1-5-1 on the year.
The home team claimed a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute as Mckenzie Collins lofted a long-range shot into the back of the net for her team-leading second goal of the season.
Wentworth widened the gap to 2-0 in the 36th minute. Jenny Montville slotted in her first collegiate tally after a through-ball from Ashley Molnar.
Eastern Nazarene faced a 2-0 deficit at the midway point of the match. The Leopards owned a 10-2 advantage in first-half shot attempts and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks earned.
The hosts tacked on their third goal of the contest in the early moments of the second stanza to stretch their lead to 3-0. Felicity Gonzalez netted her first career marker of the year as she pounced on a loose ball inside the box in the 50th minute.
The Lions got on the board in the 60th minute to trim the deficit to 3-1 as Rachel Pieger (Oakville, Conn.) scored her first career goal with a long-distance free kick.
Wentworth regained a three-goal advantage with a score in the 76th minute. Collins picked up her second goal of the game as she finished a feed from Gabriella Scarpone.
The Leopards added a tally in the 86th minute to push their lead to 5-1 on a strike by Adriana Valenti.
Eastern Nazarene finished the match with six shots while Wentworth racked up 29 attempts on the afternoon.
Senior netminder Sophia Fevola (Wellington, Fla.) registered a season-high 11 saves in her sixth start of the year. Sophomore Jasmine Arzu (Bronx, N.Y.) made her second relief appearance of the fall between the pipes and recorded one stop.
