FARMINGTON, Maine- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 setback at the University of Maine-Farming Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions dip to 1-4-1 on the year with the loss while the Beavers improve to 1-4-1 overall with the outcome.
The two squads battled to a scoreless opening stanza with the guests owning a 10-5 margin in first-half shots.
The home team captured a 1-0 edge in the 53rd minute as Leah Stevens scored her first goal of the season.
Eastern Nazarene responded with a strike less than 60 seconds later in the 54th minute of play to level the match at 1-1. Diamond Best (Danvers, Mass.) notched her team-leading third marker of the season to pull the Lions even.
Maine-Farmington regained the lead in the 80th minute, 2-1. Libby Oullette netted her first goal of the fall as Haley Fletcher picked up an assist on the go-ahead score.
The Beavers tacked on their third goal of the second half in the 90th minute to widen the gap to 3-1. McKenna Brodeur bagged her second tally of the year while Fletcher registered her second assist of the game.
Eastern Nazarene concluded the contest with 17 shots and seven corner kicks earned. Maine-Farmington produced 14 shots on the day and earned four corners.
Rookie goalkeeper Sophia Fevola (Wellington, Fla.) posted a pair of saves in her third start of the season.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene heads to Elms September 21 to kick off the New England Collegiate Conference slate.
