Women’s Soccer Blanks Fisher 5-0 for Webb's First Win
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team notched its first victory of the fall with a 5-0 win over Fisher Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The victory also marks the first career win for head coach Esther Webb.
The Lions improve to 1-3-1 on the year with the win while the Falcons dip to 1-4-0 overall.
The home team opened the scoring in the 13th minute to establish a 1-0 edge. Diamond Best (Danvers, Mass.) converted a penalty kick to net her second goal of the season.
Eastern Nazarene doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 17th minute. Sam Baston (Carver, Mass.) bagged her first goal of the season, knocking in a feed from Sarah Moschini (Upton, Mass.).
The Lions tacked on their third goal of the first frame in the 34th minute as Kyndall Fry (Tampa, Fla.) pounced on a rebound for her first tally of the year.
Eastern Nazarene sported a 17-4 margin in first-half shots to go with a 5-1 edge in corner kicks earned.
The hosts widened the gap to 4-0 in the 69th minute. Sam Bernardi (Longmeadow, Mass.) drilled a long-range, left-footed shot into the lower right corner of the cage to pick up her first marker of the season. Rookie Rachel Pieger (Oakville, Conn.) notched her first collegiate assist on the goal.
The Lions added a score in the 80th minute to expand their lead to 5-0. Bernardi tallied her second goal of the contest as she buried a cross off the foot of Moschini.
Eastern Nazarene finished the game with 41 shots while limiting Fisher to just eight attempts on the day.
Rookie goalkeeper Sophia Fevola (Wellington, Fla.) recorded four saves to post her first career clean sheet.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene treks to the University of Maine-Farmington September 18.
