QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Western New England at Bradley Field Saturday afternoon during Homecoming weekend.
The Lions sink to 6-9-0 on the season with the result and 1-5-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Golden Bears improve to 7-6-2 overall and 5-1-0 in league competition with the win.
The visitors scored early in the match to claim a 1-0 lead. Maddie Morgan netted her first tally of the fall with a lofted shot that sailed into the back of the net just over the outstretched arms of the goalkeeper in the seventh minute.
The home side equalized in the 31st minute to level the contest at 1-1. Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) buried her team-leading 10th goal of the season, volleying home a free kick service off the boot of Alexis Schmidt (North Smithfield, R.I.). Schmidt's assist pushes her conference-leading total to eight on the year.
The two teams were knotted at 1-1 at the midway point of the match.
Eastern Nazarene attempted four shots in the first half while Western New England fired 10.
The Golden Bears reestablished a one-goal margin in the 58th minute, 2-1, as Morgan Smith collected her fourth marker of the season.
The Lions finished the game with four shots while Western New England recorded 18 on the day.
Sophomore netminder Michaela Connors (Norwell, Mass.) posted seven saves on the afternoon.
