SALEM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team absorbed a 3-0 loss at Salem State Tuesday afternoon in the first match between the squads since the Lions' inaugural season in 1998.
The Lions dive to 3-10 overall with the outcome while the Vikings improve to 3-9-1 on the season.
The two teams headed into the halftime break knotted at 0-0. The visitors fired a pair of shots in the opening 45 minutes of action while the hosts attempted three.
Salem State broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute. Victoria Clancy netted her first goal of the season, finishing off a breakaway setup by Ashley Leboeuf by slotting a right-footed shot inside the right post.
The Vikings tacked on their second score of the game in the 65th minute, widening the gap to 2-0. Clancy found the back of the net for her second tally of the day, slipping a shot into the lower left corner of the cage.
The home side padded its lead in the 67th minute with its third strike, 3-0, as Allison Celia picked up her fourth marker of the fall.
Eastern Nazarene finished the game with just two shot attempts while Salem State managed 15.
Kyera Bryant (New Haven, Conn.) and Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) each registered a shot in the contest for the Lions.
Rookie Griselda Minchaca (Whittier, Calif.) posted seven saves between the pipes for the guests.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will go up against Simmons in a non-conference bout October 12.
