Lawrence Leads Women’s Soccer to 5-2 Win at Becker
LEICESTER, Mass.- Junior Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) posted her first career hat trick to propel the Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team to a 5-2 victory at Becker Wednesday.
The Lions improve to 4-4-1 overall while the Hawks move to 7-2-0 on the year.
The two teams combined to score five goals in the opening 20 minutes of the match as the visitors grabbed a 3-2 edge.
Lawrence netted her first goal of the game less than a minute after kickoff to put the Lions ahead 1-0, knocking in a rebound off the post.
Eastern Nazarene doubled its lead to 2-0 in the fifth minute as Libby Nyquist (Barre, Vt.) buried her second marker of the season.
Becker got on the board in the eighth minute to cut the deficit to 2-1 on a tally by Lindsey Keith, her fifth of the year.
The Hawks leveled the score at 2-2 in the 13th minute. Alison Mosdale notched her ninth goal of the fall off of an assist by Keith.
The Lions reclaimed the lead in the 20th minute, 3-2. Lawrence picked up her second score of the contest as Kiara Ketchuck (Taunton, Mass.) recorded her team-leading third assist of the year.
Lawrence completed the hat trick with her fifth tally of the season in the 29th minute to widen the gap to 4-2. Nyquist's pass behind the home team's defense sprung Lawrence in on a breakaway before she poked the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper and into the cage.
Eastern Nazarene tacked on a goal in the 53rd minute to increase its advantage to three, 5-2. Justine Buchanan (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) collected her second marker of the season after a corner kick delivery off the boot of Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.).
The Lions generated 17 shots on the afternoon while the Hawks finished with 16 attempts.
Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) made six saves in net for the guests.
