Women’s Soccer Suffers 3-0 Setback to Western New England

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team absorbed a 3-0 loss to Western New England Saturday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions move to 3-4-1 on the season and 1-2-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Golden Bears improve to 2-6-2 overall and 1-1-1 in league play.
The hosts nearly notched the match's first goal in the sixth minute but Katherine Lawrence's (Marlborough, Conn.) effort rang off the outside of the left post.
The guests grabbed a 1-0 edge in the 23rd minute as Emma Norden found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season. Alicia Lewis set up Norden for a long distance blast just outside the penalty box.
Western New England doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 43rd minute. Danielle Dixon fired home her first tally of the fall with a one-time shot inside the box off of a feed by Christina Delude.
The Golden Bears capped off the scoring in the 73rd minute as Lewis headed in her first marker of the season after Rebecca Mercieri served in a free kick.
Eastern Nazarene produced 13 shots in the contest while Western New England manufactured 14 chances. The home side held a 10-2 margin in corner kicks on the day.
Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) recorded five saves between the pipes for the Lions. Briana Kubik stopped six shots to earn the victory for the Golden Bears.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene hits the road for a non-conference tilt at Becker September 30.
