Women’s Soccer Rolls to 8-0 Win at Wheelock
BOSTON, Mass.- Nine different players registered a point as the Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team glided to an 8-0 rout of Wheelock Monday evening.
The Lions jump to 2-2-1 on the year with the victory while the Wildcats slip to 0-3-0 overall.
Eastern Nazarene wasted little time in finding the back of the net, scoring just 1:44 after kickoff. Junior Kiara Ketchuck (Taunton, Mass.) notched her first career goal as she slotted a low shot into the right corner of the cage on a breakaway.
The Lions doubled their advantage in the sixth minute as Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) buried her fourth score of the season. Lauren Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) served a cross into the center of the penalty area from the right wing and Couite booted home the visitors' second tally of the contest.
In the 29th minute of play, Kyera Bryant (Guilford, Conn.) extended Eastern Nazarene's lead to 3-0 with her first goal of the fall, firing a shot past the Wheelock goalkeeper from the right side.
The guests tacked on a goal in the 35th minute to widen the gap to 4-0. Rookie Tylan Onorato (Wicasset, Maine) blasted a right-footed shot into the upper right corner to collect her first collegiate marker.
The Lions added a score in the 59th minute to increase the margin to 5-0. Couite netted her second goal of the match and fifth of the season as she knocked in a corner kick delivery by Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.).
Moments later, rookie Libby Nyquist (Barre, Vt.) notched her first career tally to push Eastern Nazarene's advantage to 6-0.
The Lions tacked on their seventh goal of the night in the 70th minute as senior Justine Buchanan (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) tallied her first collegiate score off of a corner kick by Melodie Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.).
Eastern Nazarene capped off the scoring in the 87th minute on Bryant's second marker of the night.
The visitors finished the game with a commanding 19-3 advantage in shots and a 14-1 margin in shots on frame.
Senior Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) made one save in net for the Lions to earn her 17th career shutout and 28th career win.
