Women’s Soccer Edges Nichols on Senior Day, 2-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over Nichols on Senior Day at Veterans Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 8-9-0 on the season and 5-3-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The loss pushes the Bison to 7-10-0 overall and 2-6-0 in league action.
The home team captured a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute as Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied her first collegiate goal, curling in a corner kick from the right side.
Eastern Nazarene controlled a 1-0 advantage at halftime after outshooting Nichols 8-4 in the opening stanza. The Lions also earned seven corner kicks in the first frame while conceding zero.
The Bison leveled the match at 1-1 in the 57th minute. Taylor Daniels booted in a rebound after Meghan Dunn's initial shot was saved for her second of the season.
The Lions regained a one-goal edge in the 80th minute to go ahead 2-1. Kyera Bryant (Guilford, Conn.) pounced on a loose rebound inside the penalty area and buried her second marker of the fall.
Eastern Nazarene fired 16 shots in the match while Nichols managed 11 on the day.
Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) stopped six shots between the posts for the hosts. Kelly English made four stops in net for the visitors.
Prior to kick-off, Eastern Nazarene honored its eight seniors: Tina Corey (Canterbury, Conn.), Amelia Gonzales (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), Gabby Humphreys (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), Lauren Kett (Norwich, England), Maleesa Santos (Colonie, N.Y.), Savannah Sivert (Laytonsville, Md.), Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Sam Williams (Forest Hill, Md.).
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will close out the regular season at home against Endicott October 28.
