Women’s Soccer Edged by the University of New England in Double OT, 1-0
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to the University of New England Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium, falling 1-0 in double overtime.
The Lions slip to 4-7-0 on the year and 1-2-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. the Nor'easters improve to 6-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in league play with the win.
The two squads were knotted at 0-0 midway through the match. Eastern Nazarene held a slight 5-4 edge in first half shots and a 3-1 margin in corner kicks earned.
The University of New England nearly got on the board with less than two minutes remaining in the half as Becca Murphy's shot ricocheted off of the crossbar.
With the score still level at 0-0 at the conclusion of regulation, the match headed to overtime with the Nor'easters owning a 10-8 advantage in shots.
The guests netted the golden goal in the 105th minute as Jackie Dickerson snuck a right-footed shot inside the right post from the top of the 18-yard box for her third tally of the season. Lindsey Monaco collected an assist on the University of New England's lone goal of the day.
Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Hannah Scahill (Quaker Hill, Conn.) each attempted four shots in the game to lead Eastern Nazarene.
The Lions finished the game with 12 shots while the Nor'easters produced 11 on the afternoon. The hosts also sported a 4-3 corner kick advantage in the contest.
Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) stopped one shot in goal for Eastern Nazarene. Brielle Robinson was credited with no saves in the win for the University of New England.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns to action October 4 with a road match at Wentworth.
