SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision in overtime at Western New England Saturday afternoon in the first Commonwealth Coast Conference match of the fall.
The Lions slip to 3-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league action with the setback. The Golden Bears improve to 2-3-1 on the year and 1-0-0 in the conference.
The two teams battled to a scoreless first half with Eastern Nazarene holding a 7-2 edge in shots and a 2-0 margin in corner kicks earned.
The Lions nearly got on the board in the 55th minute as Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) clanged a attempt off the crossbar.
With the score still deadlocked at 0-0, the match headed to overtime to decide a victor.
Eastern Nazarene fired 10 shots in regulation and targeted four on frame. Western New England was limited to four shots through 90 minutes with zero shots on goal.
The Golden Bears tallied the game-winner with their first shot on target in the match. Danielle Dixon scored her first goal of the season 46 seconds into overtime to lift the hosts to a 1-0 win.
Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) was credited with no saves in goal for the Lions on the day. Briana Kubik stopped four shots in net for Western New England.
