Women’s Soccer Edged at Lesley, 1-0
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team dropped a narrow 1-0 decision at Lesley Tuesday evening.
The Lions slide to 0-3-0 on the season with the loss. The Lynx improve to 2-0-0 overall with the win.
In a scoreless first period, Eastern Nazarene and Lesley battled primarily in the middle third of the pitch. The two sides combined for just three shots and one corner kick in the opening 45 minutes. The Lynx held a 2-1 edge in shots while the Lions earned the half's only corner kick.
The home team got on the board in the 74th minute to claim a 1-0 lead. Alexis Giusti headed in her first score of the season after Lindsey Bos delivered a cross from the right wing.
Eastern Nazarene ramped up its offensive efforts in the waning minutes of the contest in search of an equalizer but Lesley's defense hunkered down to preserve the shutout. The Lynx escaped with the win after draining the clock by holding the ball in the corner.
Junior Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) stopped a pair of shots in the match for the visitors. Jackie Berard made two saves in goal for Lesley to earn the clean sheet.
The Lions finished with four shots on the night while the Lynx attempted seven.
Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) fired a team-high two shots in the game for Eastern Nazarene. Maleesa Santos (Colonie, N.Y.) and Hannah Scahill (Quaker Hill, Conn.) recorded the Lions' only two shots on goal.
