Women’s Soccer Receives NSCAA Team Academic Award
KANSAS CITY, Mo.- For the third consecutive academic year, the Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in November.
The Lions were one of 593 collegiate women's soccer programs to claim the distinction and were one of five squads from the Commonwealth Coast Conference to be recognized for success in the classroom.
The NSCAA Team Academic Award is granted to programs which post a collective grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. Eastern Nazarene boasted a team grade-point average of 3.1 at the conclusion of the 2012-13 academic calendar.
The Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team also placed six players on the Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Academic list last year.
This fall, the Lions set a new program record with 11 wins after finishing the season with an 11-8-1 overall record.
Eastern Nazarene reached the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament for the third straight season. The Lions suffered a 3-2 overtime loss at Gordon in the CCC quarterfinals.
Eastern Nazarene also earned its first-ever berth to the ECAC Tournament in 2013. The Lions fell to Wheaton in double-overtime, 3-2.
Juniors Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Amelia Gonzales (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) were each tabbed to the All-Commonwealth Coast Conference second team. Rookie Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) received All-CCC honorable mention as well.
