WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team endured a 2-1 overtime loss at Gordon Saturday afternoon in the Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinals.
The sixth-seeded Lions wrap up the season with an 11-7-1 overall record while the third-seeded Fighting Scots improved to 16-4-0 on the year.
The two teams battled to a scoreless first half despite the visitors holding a 9-1 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks earned.
Gordon got on the board in the 65th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Kara Dry netted her third goal of the season as her shot on frame slipped through the Lions' goalkeeper's hands and into the cage.
Eastern Nazarene responded with an equalizer in the 68th minute to even the match at 1-1. Hannah Scahill (Quaker Hill, Conn.) buried her team-leading 14th goal of the year, firing a shot from the top of the penalty box into the back of the net. Abby Spitler (Gaithersburg, Md.) recorded her second assist of the fall on Scahill's tally.
The contest remained tied at 1-1 at the conclusion of regulation. The Lions registered 18 shots through 90 minutes of action while the Fighting Scots attempted nine.
Gordon scored the game-winner 1:51 into the first overtime session to clinch the 2-1 victory to advance to the Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals. Hannah Midwinter headed home a corner kick delivery by Jamie Breton for her eighth marker of the season.
Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) turned aside two saves in goal for Eastern Nazarene on the day. McKenzie Dion stopped six shots between the pipes for the home team.
