Women’s Soccer Trio Earns All-Commonwealth Coast Conference Accolades
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Three members of the Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team garnered All-Commonwealth Coast Conference honors, as announced by the league office Friday.
Juniors Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Amelia Gonzales (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) were both selected to the All-CCC second team while rookie Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) earned All-CCC honorable mention.
Gonzales started 17 matches for the Lions this fall and tallied one goal. She was a key contributor to Eastern Nazarene's defensive unit which allowed just 1.09 goals per game and 8.39 shots per contest this season. This marks Gonzales' second postseason accolade after earning honorable mention last year.
Speno ranked second on the team with 27 points, netting 11 goals and adding five assists. She appeared in 16 matches and started 12 while recording three game-winning scores this season. Speno leads the Lions with 78 shots on the fall and 34 shots on frame. Speno is also a two-time All-CCC performer after being tabbed to the All-CCC first team as a sophomore.
Lawrence posted 24 points in her first collegiate campaign, scoring nine goals and registering a team-high six assists. She also leads Eastern Nazarene with four game-winning tallies this fall. Lawrence has seen action in all 18 matches this year and was featured in the starting lineup 17 times. She was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week on October 21 after notching the golden goal in the Lions' 1-0 overtime-victory over Western New England on Homecoming weekend.
Eastern Nazarene concluded the regular season with an 11-6-1 overall record and a 4-4-1 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
The Lions earned their third-straight berth to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament this season. Eastern Nazarene claimed the No. 6 seed in the playoffs and will face third-seeded Gordon in the quarterfinals November 2.
