Women’s Soccer Set for CCC Quarterfinal Match at Gordon Saturday
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team earned the No. 6 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament after posting a 4-4-1 record in league play this season. The Lions will travel to face third-seeded Gordon Saturday afternoon at 2 pm.
Rookie Hannah Scahill (Quaker Hill, Conn.) notched 30 points in the regular season to lead the Lions. Scahill netted 13 goals and added four assists in her first collegiate season.
Junior Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) tallied 27 points on 11 goals and five assists. Freshman Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) finished the regular season with 24 points after leading Eastern Nazarene with six helpers and scoring nine goals.
Juniors Maleesa Santos (Colonie, N.Y.) and Sam Williams (Forest Hill, Md.) are the only two players to have started all 18 matches this fall for the Lions.
Eastern Nazarene boasts an 11-6-1 record on the year heading into postseason play. The Lions' 11 victories mark a new program record for most wins in a single season.
Earlier this season, Eastern Nazarene dropped a 1-0 decision on the road at Gordon September 28. The Lions outshot the Fighting Scots by a margin of 13-5 on the day.
The Lions are making their third consecutive trip to the postseason in 2013. Eastern Nazarene suffered a 3-2 loss at Gordon last fall in the CCC semifinals after the Fighting Scots tallied two goals in the final 10 minutes of play.
Eastern Nazarene claimed its first-ever playoff victory last fall, topping the University of New England 1-0 at home.
