Women’s Soccer Falters at University at New England, Suffers 3-0 Loss
BIDDEFORD, Maine.- The Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team endured a 3-0 setback on the road at the University of New England Saturday afternoon.
The result drops the Lions to 8-5-0 on the year and 1-3-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Nor'easters improve to 7-5-1 overall with the win and 4-0-1 in league play.
The two sides battled to a goal-less first half with Eastern Nazarene owning a 4-3 edge in shots through 45 minutes of action.
The hosts broke the scoreless drought in the 64th minute, claiming a 1-0 lead on a tally by Margaret Palmer.
The University of New England doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 79th minute as Katy Marshall headed home a service by Taylor Littlefield for her second goal of the season.
The Nor'easters tacked on their third score of the match in the 85th minute. Palmer notched her second marker of the day and sixth of the year as she slotted a shot into the left corner of the cage on a breakaway.
Eastern Nazarene finished the game with a slight 15-13 edge in shots while also earning all six corner kicks awarded.
Abby Spitler (Gaithersburg, Md.) generated a team-high four shots in the game for Eastern Nazarene. Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.), Hannah Scahill (Quaker Hill, Conn.) and Amelia Gonzales (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) all fired two shots in the contest.
Sam Williams (Forest Hill, Md.) and Spitler each targeted one shot on frame in the match.
Netminder Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) recorded three saves on the afternoon for the Lions. Brielle Robinson stopped two shots in goal for the University of New England.
