Women’s Soccer Edged at Gordon Saturday, 1-0
WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team saw its seven-match winning-streak snapped Saturday afternoon, falling to Gordon 1-0 on the road.
The loss drops the Lions to 8-2-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Fighting Scots improve to 9-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 in league play with the win.
The home side got on the board early in the match, seizing a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute. Stephanie Bouillon netted her second goal of the fall as Gordon capitalized on its first corner kick of the game. Kendra Woudenberg and Kaitlyn Hawn each picked up an assist on the lone score of the afternoon.
Eastern Nazarene held a 9-2 advantage in shots through 45 minutes of play while the Fighting Scots owned a 3-2 gap in corner kicks earned.
The Lions outshot the hosts 4-3 in the second half but were unable to produce an equalizer. Eastern Nazarene finished the match with a 13-5 margin in shots on the day. Gordon edged the visitors 5-4 in corner kicks in the game.
Sam Williams (Forest Hill, Md.) fired a game-high five shots for the Lions while Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) registered three. Rookie Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) led Eastern Nazarene with a pair of shots on goal.
Sophomore netminder Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) recorded one save between the posts for the Lions on the day. McKenzie Dion stop all six shots she faced in the contest to preserve the shutout and victory.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene travels to the Ocean State October 5 to square off against Roger Williams in a Commonwealth Coast Conference tilt.
