Women’s Soccer Records Clean Sheet at Suffolk, Prevails 3-0
SOMERVILLE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women’s soccer team picked up its second shutout of the season Tuesday evening, downing Suffolk 3-0 at Dilboy Stadium.
SOMERVILLE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team picked up its second shutout of the season Tuesday evening, downing Suffolk 3-0 at Dilboy Stadium. The Lions improve to 3-1-0 with the win while the Rams drop to 0-3-0 on the year.
Eastern Nazarene opened the scoring 20 minutes into the match to seize a 1-0 edge. Junior Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) netted her team-leading fifth goal as she deflected in a shot by Abby Spitler (Gaithersburg, Md.).
The Lions doubled their lead to 2-0 in the 25th minute as Spitler tallied her second marker of the season. The junior fired a shot into the cage from inside the penalty box.
At the break, the visitors enjoyed a 10-4 advantage in shots while also earning all four corner kicks awarded in the opening half.
Eastern Nazarene tacked on its third goal of the match in the 67th minute. Lauren Kett (Norwich, England) put away a rebound for her first collegiate goal. Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) picked up an assist on Kett's tally as her initial shot ricocheted off of the crossbar.
After outshooting Suffolk 14-4 in the second period, the Lions closed out the contest with a 24-8 margin in shots. The visitors also registered six corner kicks in the match while the Rams earned three.
Sophomore Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) made five saves in goal for Eastern Nazarene on the day to record her third victory and second clean sheet of the 2013 campaign. Suffolk's Melissa Brouillette turned aside eight shots between the posts.
