Women’s Soccer Draws University of New England on Senior Day, 1-1

The Lions progress to 8-7-3 overall and 5-2-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference to finish the regular season. The Nor'easters move to 7-10-1 on the year and 5-3-1 in league play with the result.
Eastern Nazarene secured a first-round home match in the CCC playoffs with the tie Tuesday. The Lions earned the #4 seed in the playoffs and will host fifth-seeded University of New England in the quarterfinals October 27.
The two squads headed into the halftime intermission deadlocked at 0-0. The Nor'easters held a narrow 5-3 advantage in first-half shots while the Lions earned all three corner kicks awarded in the opening frame.
At halftime, the Eastern Nazarene women's soccer team recognized its lone senior, Morgan Goodney (East Greenwich, R.I.) as she played in her final regular-season home contest in a Lions' uniform.
The visitors tacked on the game's first goal in the 47th minute to claim a 1-0 edge. Lindsey Monaco lofted a ball over the Lions' defense to Alexis Wells at the top of the penalty area. Wells' shot attempt was initially saved by the hosts' goalkeeper but Kristin Dechene charged cage and knocked in the loose ball.
Eastern Nazarene knotted the contest at 1-1 in the 51st minute. Amelia Gonzales (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) headed in her first marker of the season, burying a corner kick service from Tina Corey (Canterbury, Conn.).
At the end of regulation, the Lions owned an 11-10 edge in shots after outshooting the Nor'easters 8-5 in the second half.
The Lions finished the contest with 13 shots while the Nor'easters registered 15. The University of New England posted five shots in the extra sessions while Eastern Nazarene fired two attempts. The hosts sported a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks despite conceding two in overtime.
Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) stopped five shots on the day for the home side. Samantha Guyette made four saves in the contest for the University of New England.
