Women’s Soccer Suffers First League Loss, Edged by Roger Williams 2-1

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team saw its seven-match unbeaten-streak come to an end Saturday afternoon as it dropped a 2-1 decision to Roger Williams at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The loss sinks the Lions to 5-6-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Hawks improved to 6-3-2 on the year and 4-0-1 in conference play with the result.

Roger Williams netted the game's opening score in the 26th minute as Taylor Provost knocked in a corner kick service from Hannah Noel.

Eastern Nazarene leveled the contest at 1-1 with just 1:37 remaining in the first half. Sophomore Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) rifled a left-footed shot into the upper right corner of the goal. The tally was Speno's team-best sixth of the fall.

The Hawks held a 5-2 edge in first-half shots and a 2-1 margin in corners at the intermission.

Speno nearly collected her second goal of the day in the 58th minute. The sophomore's attempt on goal hit the corner of the woodwork as the match remained tied at 1-1.

The visitors reestablished a one-goal advantage in the 60th minute of play. Mariah Kaiser slotted her fourth marker of the season into the net to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead.

Roger Williams outshot Eastern Nazarene 9-6 in the second stanza to finish the match with a 14-8 advantage. The Hawks also earned the only two corner kicks awarded in the second half.

Speno paced all players with five shots in the contest.

Between the pipes, Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) registered three saves, including a stop where she had to stretch to push a shot away that was headed for the upper corner. Stephanie Jaques turned aside a pair of shots in goal for the Hawks on the afternoon.
