Women’s Soccer Suffers 6-2 Loss at UMass-Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team dropped a 6-2 decision on the road at UMass Boston Wednesday afternoon. The Lions sink to 0-3 on the year while the Beacons escalate to 2-0 overall.
The Beacons jumped ahead 1-0 in the 29th minute of the contest. Krista Ledin buried her fourth goal of the season while Sam Cristoforo was credited with the assist.
The home side clung to the one-goal edge at the midway point of the match. UMass Boston attempted 12 shots in the opening half while Eastern Nazarene fired five. Each squad earned three corner kicks in the first frame.
In the 54th minute, Ledin notched her second score of the game to double the Beacons' lead to 2-0. Brittany Castillo and Meghan O'Connell each registered assists on Ledin's fifth marker of the year.
UMass Boston added its third goal of the afternoon in the 70th minute as Tayla Andrews found the back of the net for the fourth time this season while Ledin earned an assist on the tally.
Ledin completed the hat trick for the Beacons, netting her third of the contest in the 74th minute to push the home side ahead 4-0.
Sam Bendick extended the UMass Boston advantage to five with her first score of the season off of an assist by Dani Beane just 29 seconds after Ledin's marker.
Eastern Nazarene got on the board in the 77th minute as freshman Lauren Avery (Colrain, Mass.) buried her first collegiate goal to cut the deficit to 5-1. Sophomore Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) added an assist on Avery's goal.
Andrews restored the Beacons' margin to five, 6-1, with her second of the game and fifth of the season. Ledin earned the assist as she finished the day with three goals and a pair of helpers.
With 2:09 remaining, Abby Spitler (Gaithersburg, Md.) headed a cross from Amelia Gonzales (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) into the cage for her first of the fall to pull the score to 6-2.
UMass Boston finished with 23 shots while the Lions registered 11 in the match.
Sophomore netminder Rachel Henry (Lowell, Mass.) posted nine saves between the pipes for the visitors. Kristen Spain stopped two shots in goal for the Beacons in 45 minutes of action. Dani Perkins and Jess Charette also saw action in net for the hosts.
The Lions will travel to Lesley September 6 for their fourth-straight away game. Kickoff is slated for 8 pm.
