Women’s Soccer Drops Double-OT Decision at UMass-Dartmouth, 1-0

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 non-conference loss at UMass-Dartmouth in double overtime. The Lions skid to 0-5 overall with the loss while the Corsairs improve to 3-1 on the season.
With neither team finding the back of the net in the 90 minutes regulation time, the match was sent to overtime.
The two squads played a scoreless 10 minutes of bonus soccer in the first extra frame, forcing a second overtime session.
The hosts secured their third victory of the season in the 103rd minute as Maura Goncalves buried a loose ball inside the penalty area. Tori Pierce pick up an assist on Goncalves fourth of the season.
Sophomore Rachel Henry (Lowell, Mass.) registered 15 saves on the day in goal for the Lions. On the opposite end of the pitch, Krista Chauvin stopped three shots between the pipes for UMass-Dartmouth.
The Corsairs finished the contest with a 26-4 advantage in shots while Eastern Nazarene earned two corner kicks and conceded just one.
Morgan Goodney (East Greenwich, R.I.), Lauren Avery (Colrain, Mass.) and Tina Corey (Canterbury, Conn.) all fired shots on frame for the visitors.
The Lions will look to claim their first win of the 2012 campaign as they open play in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a road game at Wentworth September 15.
